Art at Playboy Club London

The Watergate Gallery is showcasing a series of exhibitions at the Playboy Club, starting with a photo exhibition by iconic sixties photographer Philip Townshend. Last night saw the launch of his work, which was a roaring success! The shots really capture the zeitgeist of the era and the rock 'n' roll characters that shaped such a unique time in history, including the Rolling Stones having a cheeky beer outside a Aussie pub in 1963.

Launch of Wine Tasting
Launch of Wine Tasting

Just some of the feedback we have received on the press launch of the Wine Tasting events starting at Playboy Club London.

Tim Badham (innerplace.co.uk & City AM).

The new wine tasting evenings at Playboy Club are a great idea and thoroughly enjoyed. The accomplished James Lloyd was a convivial host and a very knowledgeable sommelier who kept us entertained as well as introducing us to so cracking wines. The menu was also superb and for multiple courses with paired wines it is amazing value for such a top notch offering. I missed the Disco Duck Fries and Truffle Mac n Cheese but the refined menu certainly went well with the wine. For example the 2006 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico was an interesting choice with the Roasted Foie Gras but worked perfectly. It’s also a great introduction to this normally members only club as many people don’t realise how good the food at Playboy thanks to Judy Joo.

The Playboy club may not immediately strike you as a venue for wine connoisseurs. But Sommelier James Lloyd brought out a host of interesting bottles to go with a meal put on by executive chef Judy Joo. It's clear that the club is keen to attract new members which is why they are planning to hold an array of upcoming wine tasting evenings which will be open to both members and non-members alike. For £50 a head, it's a great way to get a sneak peak inside the club and decide whether membership is for you.

The Playboy club's new wine evenings are as delicious as they are informative. Sommelier James is a whizz at finding the best food matches, even when chef Judy throws the odd curve ball, as she did in a scallop ceviche with miso. James's pairing of a South African Sauvignon Blanc was spot on.

We are welcomed into The Private Dining room, nestled away at rear of The Playboy Club London’s buzzing casino, it seats just 12 guests for an intimate meal in a quintessentially Playboy themed setting.

Head Sommelier James Lloyd hosts the fine wine evening alongside executive chef Judy Joo. Joo’s choice of cuisine perfectly compliment each of the selected wines by James: we were fortunate to taste a 6 course menu, ranging from Hand Dived Scallops and Foie Gras to Cinnamon Beignet with wholemeal ice cream. Each course was cooked and presented to finesse. The passion and knowledge of both Joo and Lloyd shines throughout the evening, and we can certainly detect the drive that brought Judy Joo from a successful career in the city, starting at Goldman Sachs, to following her love of food at working with Gordon Ramsey and at the renowned Fat Duck. James selected a varied range of wine, and provided an educated guide through the flavours and history between each wine and its region.

We certainly look forward to returning to for another wine evening at The Playboy Club: 10/10 for taste, ambiance and hospitality.

James Buttery, Your Docklands & City Magazine

Playboy Club London’s new food and wine pairing evening makes for a flawless night out. Executive chef Judy Joo and Head Sommelier James Lloyd have created some truly uncanny matches, a real treat for the senses and, at £50 a head for food and wine, it’s perhaps the best value wine tasting the Capital has to offer.
